Brechfa Forest is one of Wales' spectacular hidden secrets. It's incredible there is something so vast just 90 minutes from Cardiff. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the size of the place but, fortunately for us, Natural Resources Wales have created some gorgeous routes with open panoramic views, quiet and serene pine forests and waterfall laden deciduous woods.
A 13 mile loop allows you to choose one, two or three laps. This is a perfect race as either your A race for a fast trail race or as a part of your training for another race. The benefit of laps for the latter is that you can practice fuelling, carrying your equipment and have some company for those long training runs. Which distance will you choose; half marathon, marathon or ultra?
You can find a preview of the route here. It's the Wind and Water Trail.
What you'll get
A professionally run event with full medical support, aid stations and free photographs. The route is fully signed and our friendly marshals will be at regular intervals to provide support and, of course, aid station snacks and water.

The cut off for all races is 20.00. The ultramarathon times allowances below are good guidelines for the amount of time you should be able to complete each lap to get maximum enjoyment of the race. 26 miles: 15:30 (total time 7.5 hours, allowing 4 hours for loop 2)
Final cut off: 20:00 (total time 12 hours, allowing 4.5 hours for loop 3)
Disclaimer: We reserve the right to pull entrants if they appear unable to complete the course following medical advice even if they are within the cut off times. The safety of our runners is paramount.
Unfortunately there are no trains directly to Brechfa - Please car share if you can to reduce your carbon footprint.
